Utah Academic Decathlon

Photo of Martina GaspariThe Academic Decathlon is the premier academic competition for high school students in the United States. Student decathletes from each high school compete in 10 different subject areas, 3 subjective (Speech, Interview, Essay), and 7 objective (Math, Music, Language & Literature, Social Science, Economics, Science, Art). The Interview is a typical ‘business interview’ that lasts for 7 minutes. For the Speech portion, the students give a four-minute prepared speech and then are given one minute to prepare an impromptu speech. For the Essay portion, students are given one hour to write an essay on an impromptu subject. This year 18 schools from across Utah are expected to participate in the State Competition. Click here to learn more about the Academic Decathlon.
